Our links with other organisations
As a community sponsorship group, Westbury Welcome must be part of an official charity: Citizens UK provides that role for us.
Citizens UK is a national charity that ‘organises communities to act together for power, social justice and the common good’. You can find out more about them at www.citizensuk.org
They also support us with training, advice and experience. And through the charity, we have links to other similar groups across the country.
Sponsor Refugees is the branch of Citizens UK that concentrates on community sponsorship of refugees. They provide a range of information, particularly for anyone who is thinking of setting up a new group. See more at www.sponsorrefugees.org
Reset provides training, support and advice for community sponsorship groups. They work closely with the Home Office. www.resetuk.org
Bridges for Communities
Bridges for Communities connects people of different cultures and faiths, enabling them to build friendships and grow in their understanding of one another.
Their programmes, include, Peace Feasts, Sharing Festivals, providing one-to-one support for refugees and asylum-seekers in Bristol, and organising special events and days out for refugees and asylum seekers.
You can find out more about them at www.bridgesforcommunities.com
CHARIS Refugees
CHARIS was formed in direct response to the government's opportunity to sponsor refugee families from the Middle East. Moved by the plight of thousands of refugees, three churches set up the charity and applied to the Home Office to become a Community Sponsor.
CHARIS encourage and support other groups similar to ourselves to do the same. They have recently become a regional coordinator for supporting the growth of community sponsorship across the South West. See more at www.charisrefugees.org
